A climatogram of the chaparral biome on the Mediterranean coastlines.
- Fogs during spring and fall reduce evaporation
- Summers are long, warm, and dry
- Mild and Moist
- 30-100 degrees Fahrenheit
- 10-17 inches of rain/year
The chaparral is located next to coastlines of huge bodies of water like the Mediterranean Sea, Pacific Ocean, and the Atlantic Ocean. The chaparral is also bordered next to some deserts. Because of being close to the water, the climate provides a slightly longer winter season. Also, fogs in the spring and fall reduce evaporation. During the long, warm, and dry summers, the chaparral becomes very dry and very flammable. Usually, the fires in these biomes are started by lightning or human activities spread with incredible swiftness. Thankfully, the chaparral are adapted to and maintained by fires. When the rainy season hits, annual wildflowers and grasses spring up and use nutrients released by the fire. New shrubs grow quickly and crowd out the grasses.
